Anecdote of the Jar

I placed a jar in Tennessee,
And round it was, upon a hill.
It made the slovenly wilderness
Surround that hill.

The wilderness rose up to it,
And sprawled around, no longer wild.
The jar was round upon the ground
And tall and of a port in air.

It took dominion every where.
The jar was gray and bare.
It did not give of bird or bush,
Like nothing else in Tennessee.

Epimetheus & Pandora, Paolo Farinati, ~1600.Pandora's box ... well, it wasn't a box it was a jar; Pandora was the Greeks' 'first woman' and the object of Hesiod's ancient misogyny; Prometheus (forward thinker & smart guy) tells his brother Epimetheus (afterwards thinker & doofus) not to take any presents from the gods but of course he takes Pandora (and with her comes the jar) and the rest is history.

Hope stays in the jar: Why do the Greeks put it in there in the first place? How exactly is Hope an 'evil'?

Good questions (possibly) for a humanity lookin' straight up the double- and triple- and quadruple-barrelled environmental shotgun - on which the triggers have already been pulled.
